THE SOUTHERN COASTLANDS: ON THE SUBTROPICAL ENVIRONMENT

The Southern Coastlands' climate supports a large production of subtropical crops such as citrus fruits and rice. The Humid and tropical climate gives the region mild winter temperatures, hot summers and a long growing season (Regional Landscapes of the US and Canada). The book metions Southern half of Florida is unlikely to experience frosts every year and others states where farmers benefit from growing seasons like those of the Southern Coastlands are Southern California, Hawaii, and southwestern Arizona. The most important Southern Coastland regions speciality crops are citrus fruits, rice and sugarcane. Outside the Southern Coastlines, others states with large citrus growing productions are only California and Arizona. However California is the only state exceeding Florida's lemons and navel oranges production (Regional...Canada).
I live in the city of Santa Paula California, which carries the title of "THE CITRUS CAPITAL OF THE WORLD". http://www.ci.santa-paula.ca.us/
The total boxes of lemon production in California between 2005 & 2006 was 24,800,000 versus Florida with none.

Another aspect in the Southern Coastlans that competes with California is the tourism. Both California and Florida have their own Disneyworld. Orlando Florida and Anaheim California are the only Disneylands in the United States.
